About field mapping configurations in Unito

Field mapping configuration allows you to precisely define how values in multi-option fields (e.g., statuses, labels, drop-downs) translate between connected tools.

Want to ensure that a "High Priority" task in one tool remains "High Priority" when synced to another? Or that a blue label stays blue after syncing? This step lets you define those relationships in Unito.

You can thoroughly customize a multi-mappable field to suit your workspace. This is usually done in two steps:

  • Map the fields to each other: Say you have labels in Trello and tags in Asana. When it’s time to set up your field mappings, you’ll want to match them up.

  • Map each option within the field: You can map a specific Trello label to a specific tag in Asana, map multiple labels to a single tag, and more. More on this in a minute.

Customize your fields in Unito

In addition to mapping native fields, Unito allows you to sync your custom fields (in applicable connectors), ensuring that unique fields and values are reflected across your tools.

In this example flow between two Trello boards, you’ll see that a few field mappings have cogs next to them. These cogs identify configurable fields.

Click on the cog to open the configuration menu.

How to configure field values in Unito

After mapping your fields (automatically or manually), you can further refine how their values sync, especially for fields with multiple options like statuses, labels, or dropdowns. This ensures the right information flows between your tools. Here's how.

  1. Select the gear (or cog) icon beside a pair of synced fields.
  2. Click + Add more.
  3. Choose a value for each field. Mapping state to status
    1. Grouped Values: Use the "+" button to combine multiple values in one tool into a single value in the other. (e.g., "In Progress" and "In Review" in one tool become "Active" in the other.)
      1. In this example, Unito will always turn either label option on the right into a "yellow label" on the left.

    2. Individual Value Pairs: Map values one-to-one, so each status change is reflected precisely. (e.g., "High Priority" in one tool matches "Urgent" in the other.). This can be done by selecting + Add more labels for each pair of values you need to match.
    3. A mix of grouped and individual value pairs: In the example below, the Still Waiting status is synced to both In Progress and Selected for Development, while the other pairs of synced values are individually paired.downloads.intercomcdn.comio4519314610f69305fbef642f90698799dstatuses+and+sections+trello+Jira
