Things to keep in mind before you start

Notion’s API is still in beta, which creates some limitations for our integration. With that in mind, here are a few things you should know before you add Notion to your Unito workspace.

Create a shared Notion account

Only one Notion user per workspace can connect to an app like Unito — this is a limitation from Notion’s API. As such, you should create a Notion user dedicated to using Unito and give it access to all pages and databases in your workspace.

If you don’t do this, your flows may start working as people use different accounts to sign in and out of Unito. Treat this account as an admin account; only give access to people who absolutely need it.

Add the last edited time column to your databases

Unito flows need this information to work properly. Before you add Notion to your workspace, make sure the databases you want to sync have this column. Right-click on any column, click on Insert left or Insert right. Then click on the new column and change Property Type to Last edited time. You don’t need to do anything else. You can hide the column if you want, just make sure it’s there.

Connecting Notion to your Unito workspace

After signing up for Unito, you can add Notion to your Unito workspace in one of two ways. Either when creating a new flow or through the Integrations page.

When creating a new flow

If you’re working in a brand new Unito workspace, you’ll be taken right to Unito’s quick-start walkthrough.

The first step of [creating your flow] is connecting your tools. This is where you’ll connect your Notion workspace to Unito. Click on Start here, then click on the + Add a tool to this flow dropdown and choose Notion.

Click on + Choose account, then + Connect a new Notion account.

Next, you’ll see this screen, where you’ll be asked to give Unito permission to access your Notion workspace. You can choose the Notion workspace you want to connect in the top right. To proceed, click on Select pages.

After that, you'll see a list of all the Notion pages in your workspace. Make sure the ones you want to sync are checked. Feel free to uncheck any pages you don’t want to sync.

Now go to the Notion page you want to sync, click on the Share menu, and make sure you see Unito there. Unito needs Can edit permissions in order to sync your pages. If you ever add a new page to your Notion workspace that you want to sync, you don’t need to re-authorize Unito. Just go to the Share menu, and invite Unito, making sure to give Can edit permissions.

And that’s it! You’ve connected Notion to your Unito workspace, and you can start syncing information to and from Notion. Just add another tool to your workspace and create your first flow.

From the Integrations page

So let’s say you’re not working in a new Unito workspace. In that case, your default screen when you log in will be the flow list.

You can add Notion to your workspace by creating a new flow, but you can also do so through the Integrations page. Start by clicking on the profile icon in the top right of the screen.

Click on Integrations.

Here, you’ll see every integration you can connect to your Unito workspace. Scroll down until you see Notion and click on Connect account. You’ll get the same authorization screen as in the process above.

Just click Select pages, check the pages you want to sync, and you’re done. It’s the same exact process, minus the flow creation.
