Looking to connect Asana to your Unito workflows? Here's what you can expect from our integration.
What does this article cover?
- What does Unito sync from Asana?
- Configuration options: custom fields, attachments and more
- Limitations and compatibility
- Necessary permissions for connecting Asana to Unito
You can sync Asana tasks with work items in other tools by creating a Unito flow. Your flow enables you to create work items in another tool automatically whenever you manually add new tasks to Asana. You can also configure Unito to sync historical Asana tasks.
This article will give you an overview of supported fields in Asana, as well as limitations of Unito's integration.
What does Unito sync from Asana?
Unito syncs tasks from Asana projects by linking individual fields from those tasks to items in other tools (e.g., tickets, issues, cards, records, spreadsheet rows, Salesforce objects, or other tasks).
Your Unito flows have the same level of permission as the account you connect. So your flows can only sync tasks that your Asana account (connected to Unito) has access to.
Here's a full list of Asana fields and custom field types supported by Unito.
What about Asana Portfolios? Unito's Asana Advanced integration allows you to sync data using a Portfolio or Team as a block of work. Want to add this feature to your workspace? Reach out to us so we can activate it!

How do you sync Asana tasks with Unito?
To connect Asana and/or another tool through Unito Sync Platform, users create flows. Flows represent the connection between Asana and other tools comprised of four steps:
Configuration options: custom fields, attachments and more
Unito's Asana connector supports virtually all standard fields and the most critical custom fields for your business use cases.
What counts as an item in sync?
For Asana, both tasks and subtasks count as items in sync. So if you sync an Asana task that has a subtask, Unito will count this as two items in sync.
Ready to get started? Here's a list of step-by-step guides for Asana users to connect projects to Unito.
Custom fields
The custom fields supported by this integration are Single-Select dropdown, Multi-Select, Number, and Text fields.
Subtasks
Asana subtasks can be synced with other tools that have subtasks, such as Jira or Trello. You can also sync multiple levels of subtasks.
Default actions
You can include an action in your rules to send newly created Asana tasks to a specific section or column by default.
Tip: If you don't configure your fields to sync Asana section/column to a similar field in your other tool, Unito will automatically defer to your default rules.
Attachments
Unito can copy attachments to and from Asana, meaning the whole file will be available in any synced task as long as it's mapped to an attachment field in your other tool.
You can also stream Asana attachments to the description footer of the other tool, adding a clickable link for anyone in the other tool to view it without logging in to Asana.
Limitations and compatibility
We’re constantly looking to better support Asana’s growing list of features, fields, and use-cases. Here are a few common limitations you should be aware of:
- Dates: Project End Date is not supported, although the Start Date field is syncable.
-
Task approval states cannot be mapped: Approve, Request Changes and Reject.
-
Task followers are not synced.
- Attachments must be added to an Asana task — not the task's description — in order to sync with Unito.
- Description fields: Text in the description can't include a < or > value. Doing so will cause a formatting error that will prevent your task from syncing.
Unito is compatible with all tiers of Asana subscriptions, including free! Some functionality is limited to Asana’s higher tiers, such as syncing custom fields.
Necessary permissions for connecting Asana to Unito
Your Asana account needs to be a full member of your organization, not a guest. Then, make sure the account is part of the Asana team that owns the project you want to sync.
OAuth Scopes
Default: Provides access to all endpoints documented in our API reference.
