Which Jira Integration Should I Pick?

Unito offers two-way integrations with Jira software, including Jira Cloud, Jira Server, Jira Data Center and Jira Service Management.

What this article covers:

Unito currently supports Jira Server, Jira Cloud, Jira Service Management, and Jira Data Center. However, be advised that Atlassian will be sunsetting on-premise Jira support in February of 2024.

Jira Cloud Software

Jira is likely the most widely-known software development tool in the world. It’s used to plan, track, release, and report on software.

Jira Cloud, specifically, is a version of Jira hosted on the cloud. So, Atlassian (the company behind Jira) will “host, set up, secure, and maintain your products in the cloud for you.” This has a few advantages, including quicker onboarding, low maintenance costs, and the ability to work anywhere (great for remote teams).

Unito allows you to sync Jira with other work management tools to add some agility to your development workflow and ease cross-team collaboration.

Pick the Jira Cloud connector if you work in software development or product management, or work closely with those teams, and your Jira instance is hosted in the cloud.

Jira Server or Jira Data Center

Jira Server or Jira Data Center is a version of Jira hosted by your business on-premise. This means that you “install, host, and run” Jira yourself, often on your own hardware or through an outsourced hosting provider.

The advantages of Jira Server are that you maintain total control over your Jira instance, and it allows for local data storage — which may be a requirement for certain industries. This does put the onus on you to build and maintain hardware however, and creates a less flexible work situation for your developers.

There is no change in what Unito can offer in terms of a Jira Server integration. You can still connect to other tools and build workflows that enable collaboration between teams or entire organizations.

You’ll want to pick the Jira Server connector if you work in software development or project management, or work closely with those teams, and your Jira instance is hosted locally on your server.

Jira Service Management Software

Jira Service Management is a specialized version of Jira specifically catered to IT Service Management — namely resolving internal IT issues and providing services and support to your own organization. With Unito, integrate Jira Service Management (cloud or server) with other work tools, making it easier to dispatch internal tickets and bug fixes originating in marketing, sales, and any other business teams.

If you work in IT or work closely with an IT team using Jira, you’ll want to select the Jira Service Desk connector.

And the same differences between cloud and server described above apply to Jira Service Desk, so make sure you select the right option for you.
