What executive or manager doesn't dream of having a clear live view of all of their organization's progress?
But how is that possible when every department and sometimes every team uses a different work management tool, each suited for their needs? Do you have to wait for the weekly (or monthly, or quarterly, or never...?) status reports to find out what’s happening? Is your reporting tool outdated because staff is forgetting to update it?
This guide will show you how to best use Unito and Trello to gather a live dashboard of projects in Trello boards, some of which are managed in other tools such as Asana, GitHub or Jira.
Select which projects you want to track
Many management tools can be used by your different teams to track their work so it can be hard to have an idea of the overall progress. Most of the time you want to know how things are going without disturbing people too often or waiting for the status report, which is all too often just a notice that things went off the rails two weeks ago.
With Unito, you can pick the projects you want to monitor and sync them with your tool of choice, here Trello.

Before we begin:
Bring the selected projects in Trello
If you haven't already, sign up for Unito with Trello and at least one of the other tools you want to sync (don't worry you can add more tools later).
If you're already on the Unito dashboard, click on "Add Sync".
The first step is to select what you want to sync. Here choose the tool and its project you want to bring into Trello.
Then you choose where to sync this project, in our case it is Trello. You have the choice to sync the project with an existing Trello board or a new one. Here, I recommend choosing a new one to not mess with your other team's work (cards from the existing Trello board would sync to the imported project by default).
Finally, review your sync to make sure everything is good to go. You notice you have two options here: one is to just create the sync, the other one is to better customize the sync before enabling it. You'll probably want to actually customize the sync so that you don't have every single issue in a team in your Trello board. You'll need to set up filters either by label or by assignee to minimize the information overload. Read on for more info on how to do that at the end of this article in "Recommended Settings." :)
See the projects live right before your eyes
That's it, you should now see new cards appear in your Board, everything will stay in sync, every new change in the other tool will be updated automatically every 5 minutes.
Want more information on a task? Don't hesitate to comment directly on it, the addressee will receive it in his or her tool and can answer you directly from there.
- Don't want to be overflooded with tasks that are less important to you? Add filters to your sync, you can choose to sync only certain types of tasks or exclude others. Of course, your teams will need to follow the rules you set out for those filters, but you can elect to only see issues of a certain priority or business value, or only see issues and not their subtasks.
- Make sure the assignees are well mapped between your tools so you can see who's working on what and assign tasks or comments to people.
